The Committee to Assess Local Mayorship (CALM) is a large and varied coalition of people growing in number day by day that is interested in the betterment of Pueblo. It is made up of ordinary men and women who reflect Pueblo’s business, education, law enforcement, governmental and financial communities. It is not a group of Democrats or Republicans that want to take over the city council. CALM is registered with the Pueblo City Clerk’s Office. We believe that changing our current form of city government to a mayor/council form of government will better represent the needs of the people and city of Pueblo.

Information
A Mayor For Pueblo! - Overview
CALM Petition Language
Synopsis of Charter Amendment

    • A mayor has the formal powers of leadership and the power to convey a vision for Pueblo

    • A mayor ensures a balance of power and encourages rigor in city council or city staff decisions
    • A mayor is the face of Pueblo and the face of “accountability”

    • Today there is a mood in Pueblo that things need to change

The change will have no fiscal impact. The assets and resources for the mayor, city council and city staff to perform their realigned functions effectively will be paid out of the existing budget of the city.

Pueblo’s current form of government is a city manager/council form of government. The system is modeled after the corporate structure of governance. The change to a mayor requires a charter amendment to be authorized by a vote of the people in the November, 2009 election.
